The Maid

Miss Opal was born into a poor family, but even though they had their struggles they were loving and looked out for one another. She knew only hard work and tiredness. And she saw this in her parents too, how some days after working multiple jobs they fell asleep on the sofa exhausted.

 

They always made sure though that no matter what some money was put in the savings jar each month, just in case one of them got sick or injured and couldn’t work. This way the bills were always covered, and sometimes they could treat themselves to a cheap break.

 

Opal had one older brother and a younger sister but she always seemed to be the one that looked after everyone. Her older brother was very protective of her. There was an occasion one of his friends got too attached to her even though she clearly said and showed she wasn’t interested, this led to a fight between the men.

His friend was forced out of the house with a few bruises and cut lip, told never to come back or come near the family again. The friend promised they would pay for treating him like that, she had made a huge mistake rejecting him. They thought nothing of it, just empty words from someone with a bruised ego.

A year later Opal came home from her shift in the restaurant to find the door broken, her mother sobbing in the kitchen and her father full of worry. They had been burgled, the flat was a mess all their things on the floor, windows smashed and the savings jar was out of its hiding place empty. They all knew who had done it but had no proof.

​

The costs of fixing and replacing items with no savings to use meant they were constantly late with payments for rent and utility bills, until they were evicted, they had no choice but to move to an area of the city known for its inhospitable people. Opal swore to herself she would get a better job and make sure her family could live a better life.

 

After months of working several jobs she landed the perfect job, A maid and helper to the butler in the STT mansion in the town of Jewel a very upmarket and sort after area full of the wealthy.

The pay was better than a couple of her jobs put together, and she planned on making sure she was indispensable to them by whatever means possible. She would work her way up the ranks, learning all the ways to get some extra funds.

​

The special dinner at the STT mansion would be a great way for her to make sure all the wealthy guests would want to hire her too.

Would she go too far to get the extra funds she wanted? Could she keep hold of this much needed job? Or does it all backfire and she loses everything?
